Why it’s important that the information in your forms is current.

The bankruptcy forms provide the court, your trustee, and your creditors with important information. Some of the information can change over time - like your year-to-date income or how much is in your bank account. 

Before you can file your forms, you’ll be signing them under penalty of perjury. This means that you swear to the court that the information on your forms is accurate. If you intentionally provide the court with incorrect information that you know is out of date, you risk the success of your bankruptcy case. That’s why we require users to restart the process after a certain amount of time has passed.

If you have to amend your forms to update old information after filing your case, you may have to pay an extra court filing fee. You’ll also incur additional postage and printing expenses. Never mind the fact that the trustee and your creditors may wonder what else is wrong with your forms, which may result in additional proceedings that may delay your fresh start.

Although you are using a free tool to prepare your forms, this is a serious process and it’s important to make sure that you take it seriously. This means, don’t file your forms with outdated information. You wouldn’t be happy with a lawyer filing your forms with outdated information for you, right? 

In short, if it’s been a while since you filled out the questionnaire, you’ll be required to restart. This is the only way to make sure that you provide the court with the most up-to-date information on your forms.
