What are the important dates in a Chapter 7 bankruptcy case?
There are few dates that are important milestones in a Chapter 7 case. They are:
- The date the case is filed
- The date of the meeting of creditors
- The deadline for creditors to object to the discharge
- The date the discharge is granted
You can find all of these dates when visiting the “docket report” - no matter where you are in the process. The top of the page will have all important case information, and all important dates are listed on the right. It’ll look something like this:
You’ll see, the creditors in this case had until 7/11 to object to the discharge. No one did, and the debtor received their discharge on 7/16. The “date terminated” is the date the case was closed.
