Your order of discharge will have a date on the form that is the official date of discharge.
When you receive your bankruptcy order, keep it in a secure place, so you can refer to it later for this information.
What If I Need My Discharge Date But I Don’t Have My Paperwork Anymore?
If you had a bankruptcy discharge but you can’t find your court order, you can look up your case and case number on PACER. PACER is a government website that has records from bankruptcy courts, district courts, and appellate courts in the United States.
If you’re not comfortable with filling out forms online and making queries, you can call the court that handled your bankruptcy. Some clerks can give the date of discharge over the phone.
I haven't received my discharge yet. When should I expect my discharge to be granted?
As long as you complete the second bankruptcy counseling course and submit the certificate of completion to the bankruptcy court, your discharge will be entered sometime after the creditor's deadline to object has expired. This deadline is 60 days after the creditors' meeting. You can find the exact date on your Form 309A (under #9).
Most people receive their discharge notice in the mail about 2 weeks after that date (assuming no reaffirmation hearing has been scheduled for later in the case). For more details about the Chapter 7 bankruptcy timeline, check out this article in Upsolve's Learning Center.
