If you’re filing bankruptcy in the Middle District of Florida, you will have to provide the court with a list of all of your creditors and their addresses in a “computer readable format.” Your creditors are all businesses, banks, and individuals you owe money to. The creditor matrix is the list of names and addresses for each and every creditor you have. It is used by the court to mail notices to your creditors about your case. Upsolve will prepare this list for you based on your credit report and the information you provide in our questionnaire.
Tip: If you want to see your creditor’s matrix, a copy is included at the very end of your forms packet.
“Computer readable format” means that the court will not accept your matrix on paper. This is true even though you have to submit all of your other bankruptcy forms to the court on paper when filing without an attorney (“pro se”). When you generate your filing packet through Upsolve, you will have the opportunity to download the creditor matrix as a .txt file formatted based on the court’s specific requirements as explained here.
Before you can file your case, you have to copy the .txt file containing your creditor matrix to either a USB drive or a CD. You will not get these back from the court after filing. If you need to purchase a USB drive, note that your creditor matrix is a very small file, so no need to spend a lot of money on a high capacity drive. If you have an old USB drive that you’re using, make sure to remove all of your other data first, then reformat the drive for use with a Windows machine.
NOTE: Do not upload your other bankruptcy forms to the USB drive. A paper copy of all the forms will need to be submitted to the court when you file. If you have questions about filing forms electronically, visit the court’s information page for folks filing without a lawyer for more information.
Label the USB drive with your name and the date you’re filing your case and submit it to the clerk’s office along with your other bankruptcy forms when you file your case.
